I have been in ketosis for more than a month, in the evenings ketones in the urine jump to 16+, in the morning it is sometimes even 0 ... glucose in the urine is always almost 0. Is my condition dangerous, is ketosis necessary to be even during the day?

Hello, this may be due to dehydration. If you have normal blood sugar levels and are generally feeling well, just drink more water to make your urine less concentrated. Also replenish your stores of magnesium, sodium and calcium.

If sugar starts to "jump" and it becomes bad, then it is better to consult a doctor, check the thyroid gland and pass tests. It is also better to temporarily increase the amount of carbohydrates to 50 g, and then return to the recommended 25-30 g gradually.

In addition, the determination of ketones in urine has disadvantages:

- Urinalysis is less accurate, as it can be influenced by medication, vitamin C, and even nutrition;
- Ketones are released into urine only 3-4 hours after they appear in the body;
- Ketones can be present in urine up to 2 days after they have ceased to be produced;
- It is impossible to determine when exactly the ketones were formed.

A more accurate way is the determination of ketones in the blood, which can be done, for example, using the FreeStyle Optium glucometer - it shows both glucose and ketones.
